We offer a six-quarter program and a 10-quarter option which prepare individuals to become professional nurses to meet the health care needs of the community. Based on the Program Vision, Mission, and Philosophy, the Program is dedicated to student success and strives for excellence. The Program reflects the core values of Professionalism, Excellence, Caring, and Clinical Reasoning. The graduate will receive the Associate in Applied Science-Transfer degree and will be eligible to take the NCLEX-RN examination for licensure as a Registered Nurse. Further information about the Program, the prerequisites, and the application procedure is available in the Nursing Program Brochure and on the website.

As of December 1, 2016, it will no longer be possible to take the COMPASS test to fulfill the testing requirement for Nursing Program applicants. We now require all applicants to the Nursing Program to take the AccuPlacer tests for Reading, Writing and Math. However, you will still be able to use your COMPASS test scores for the Spring 2017 application and the Fall 2017 application as long as they meet the one year testing requirement and the minimum score requirements that are posted. Please see detailed information regarding accepted test scores by clicking on the tab “Required Tests” on the left.

The tests will be the required test for Nursing Program applicants until further notice. Please check the Nursing Program website for future changes and updates.

The application for Fall 2017 is now closed. All Fall 2017 applicants will receive written notification of their status in 4 – 6 weeks.

The application for Winter 2018 will open on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 and will remain open until 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 3, 2017.

The Nursing Program at Shoreline Community College strives to be recognized in the state of Washington, nationally, and internationally as an excellent associate degree nursing program. The Program is dedicated to student success and preparing individuals to become professional nurses to meet the health care needs of the community,

Nursing Program Vision

The mission of the Nursing Program at Shoreline Community College is to serve the educational, workforce and cultural needs of our diverse community. The nursing Program strives to engage students through integrated learning, excellence in teaching/learning, and a student-centered approach. Working in close collaboration with the diverse health care community, Shoreline strives to prepare nurses for practice who are competent and committed to safe, quality care in an evolving healthcare environment and share the values of social justice and life-long learning. The Nursing Program strives to prepare associate degree graduates to be eligible for licensure as Registered Nurses and to continue their education and obtain a bachelor of science degree in nursing (BSN) and graduate education.

Nursing Program Philosophy

We believe nursing is a dynamic profession grounded in scientific theory that requires specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills based on the biological and social sciences, and the humanities. Nursing combines the art and science of caring to address the needs of the person, family, and community, through health promotion, health maintenance, health restoration, and the end of life care. We believe student learning is facilitated by utilizing best practices in teaching and learning including active-learning strategies, adult learning principles, and student-centered approaches.
